Love and Need

Love and Need

by Kelp

Love and need
typically
coincide.

You love me
because
you need me.

But what if you --
independent you --
don’t need me?

Or no longer
need me
like you did before?

Can one still love
independent
of need?

It doesn’t follow
as naturally,
doesn’t come
as easily or as logically.

Now that you no longer
need me, I’m asking:
can you still love?
will you? I’m asking.
