October Seventh

October Seventh

by Kelp

Sirens shrieking
through night and fog
caught in the line
of vision:
blooddroned eyes
of an unknown beast
three ribs hanging
from its mouth.
Devour!
Devour much!
Devour flesh!

What does he care who you are?
His violence is indiscriminate.

Into the black belly
of the white whale.
More light, more light!
This is not a meeting place
of friends. No
color. Scratches line
the cold stone walls,
stained with
blood and excrement.
Take my hand;
there is no hand.

What does he care if you die?
Your life to him is indiscriminate.
