The instability of fortune,
The interchangeability of friends.
When in doubt, think of fish.

The markets are volatile,
Inviolate and cruel.
Unconcerned and unresponsive
To the aspirations and appetites
Of individuals
Like me and you.

The hand on my shoulder
Is always the same,
Attached to the same kind of people,
Who are drawn to a shoulder like mine,
Which only changes by time and by place,
But the hands are nearly identical.

Turn your face now to the aquarium
Silent except for the bubbles.
Life on a smaller
And simpler scale,
Swirling with colors
And inscrutable eyes.
